Preface

The Seaman Collection has been a central part of the lives of all members of the Seaman family for over 50 years. The formation and enjoyment of ownership of the collection has been shared by Bruce and Ramine Seaman with their sons Terii and Maui from when they were very young. After Bruce passed in early 2022, Ramine and Terii wanted to show their love and respect by producing a book using Bruce’s photographs. On Ramine’s unexpected passing in late 2022, it only encouraged Terii to pursue and fulfil the project. Bruce's photographs show a collector's journey, in the field and at home with his family. All collectors only acquire a small number of the pieces they see or are offered. There are several photographs in the book of pieces that Bruce did not collect, these have been included because of their historical interest and to help the reader better understand the time when Bruce was collecting in New Guinea.
